About Camp Cooper
Established in 1856 to oversee the nearby Comanche Indian Reservation on the Clear Fork of the Brazos, Camp Cooper was commanded for a period by Robert E. Lee, whose frustrating experience trying to manage escalating settler-Comanche tensions here foreshadowed the reservation's forced closure and removal in 1859.
