Several structures survive on the grounds, including a Greek Revival-era plantation house, an earlier Federal-style farmhouse, a log cabin, and other outbuildings relocated to illustrate plantation life. The property is in local government ownership and operates as a historic house museum. It is open to the public on a limited schedule, primarily through guided tours.
About Callaway Plantation
Callaway Plantation was established in the late eighteenth century by Job Callaway as a cotton plantation in Wilkes County, Georgia. Worked by enslaved laborers, it grew into one of the county's leading agricultural estates, with the family later building a Federal-style mansion on the property. It illustrated the plantation economy of Georgia's antebellum cotton belt.
