HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Caesareum of Alexandria.

Almost nothing survives above ground of the ancient Caesareum, its site now overbuilt by modern Alexandria, with only fragmentary foundations and a pair of relocated obelisks once associated with the temple now removed to London and New York. The site itself is not a managed monument but lies under Egyptian state jurisdiction as with other antiquities. There is no public access to remains in situ, the area being part of the modern urban fabric.

About Caesareum of Alexandria

Cleopatra VII began construction of the Caesareum in Alexandria in the first century BCE as a temple honoring Julius Caesar or Mark Antony. Augustus completed and rededicated it after his conquest of Egypt, turning it into a temple of the imperial cult. Two obelisks, later known as Cleopatra's Needles, flanked its entrance and were eventually moved abroad.
