HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Cabildo of Buenos Aires.

The colonial town hall's arcaded facade, portico, and several original interior rooms survive, though the building was reduced from its original number of arches by nineteenth and early twentieth century street widenings that removed sections of the structure. It operates as a national museum, the Museo Histórico Nacional del Cabildo, under Argentina's national heritage authorities. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Cabildo of Buenos Aires

Spanish colonial authorities established the Cabildo of Buenos Aires as the seat of the town council, with the present building constructed mainly in the eighteenth century. It housed the colonial administration and judiciary for the city and surrounding region. In 1810 it was the site of the open town meeting that triggered the process leading to Argentine independence.
