HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Córdoba.

The historic center preserves the Mezquita-Catedral, an eighth century mosque with a sixteenth century cathedral built within its forest of horseshoe arched columns, along with the Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir, the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, and the narrow streets of the Judería. It forms the World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Córdoba and is managed by the cathedral chapter and municipal authorities. The monuments are open on a ticketed basis, with the old town freely accessible.

About Córdoba

Córdoba was founded as a Roman colony in the second century BCE by the praetor Claudius Marcellus. It became the capital of the Roman province of Hispania Ulterior, later Baetica, and a center of Roman culture that produced scholars such as Seneca. The city remained a leading administrative hub in Roman Spain for centuries.
