HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire.
Substantial ruins of the Cistercian abbey survive, including the roofless nave walls, the base of the great west window whose design is thought to have influenced the rose window of York Minster, and sections of medieval floor tiling, with the upper stonework and monastic buildings largely reduced to footings. English Heritage cares for the site as a scheduled monument. It is open to the public, with free access to the grounds.
About Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire
Byland Abbey was a Cistercian monastery in North Yorkshire whose community, after several moves, settled at the site in 1177. Its church became one of the largest Cistercian buildings in medieval England, and the nearby Battle of Byland in 1322 saw Scottish forces rout an English army. The abbey was suppressed in 1538 during Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries.
