Bushfield was the Westmoreland County home of John Augustine Washington, George Washington’s brother. The family estate participated in Virginia’s plantation economy while its owners supported the Patriot cause. No battle occurred here; its significance rests on the Washington family and the Northern Neck home front.

Surviving buildings, ruins, archaeology, or family burials may remain, but the property is not interpreted as a conventional public museum.
