HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Burnham Tavern Museum.

The Machiasport Historical Society preserves the eighteenth-century Burnham Tavern as a furnished historic house museum. Restored rooms, period objects, exhibits, and guided interpretation retain the domestic setting associated with planning resistance before the Battle of the Margaretta, with seasonal public access.

About Burnham Tavern Museum

Built in 1770, this tavern served as a meeting place for Patriot militia before the June 1775 Battle of Machias, one of the first naval engagements of the Revolution, and was used afterward as a field hospital.
