HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Bodie State Historic Park.

The park preserves roughly one hundred original wooden buildings from the mining town, including homes, stores, the stamp mill, and a church, deliberately maintained in a state of arrested decay rather than restored to their original condition. It is owned and operated by the California Department of Parks and Recreation as a State Historic Park and National Historic Landmark. The site is open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis, with self-guided walking access throughout the town.

About Bodie State Historic Park

Prospector W. S. Bodey discovered gold there in 1859, and a rich strike in 1876 touched off a major mining boom. Bodie grew into a rowdy town of thousands, known for its mines, mills, and reputation for violence. Ore production declined in the early twentieth century, ending Bodie's run as one of California's leading gold camps.
