HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Blasket Centre.
The center itself is a modern interpretive building rather than a historic structure, housing exhibits, artifacts, and archival material relating to the abandoned island community of the nearby Great Blasket, whose stone cottages survive only as roofless ruins on the island. It is administered by Ireland's Office of Public Works. The center is open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis.
About Blasket Centre
The Blasket Centre was established in the twentieth century on the County Kerry mainland to commemorate the Irish-speaking community of the nearby Blasket Islands. The islands produced noted Irish-language writers, including Tomás Ó Criomhthain and Peig Sayers, before the last residents left in 1953. The center was built to preserve and interpret this island culture and its literary legacy.
