HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Beit She'an (Scythopolis).

Beit She'an preserves an extensive Roman and Byzantine city, including the colonnaded Palladius Street with its re-erected columns, a Roman theater, a public bathhouse, a nymphaeum, and a temple, all excavated ruins overlooked by the ancient tel of biblical Beth Shean. The site is managed by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority as a national park. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Beit She'an (Scythopolis)

Beit She'an has been inhabited since the Chalcolithic period, in the fifth millennium BCE, making it one of the oldest continuously settled sites in the region. It served as a Canaanite city and an Egyptian administrative center during the Late Bronze Age. Rebuilt in Hellenistic and Roman times as Scythopolis, it became the leading city of the Decapolis league.
