The site preserves the abbey's former refectory, now used as the parish church, along with the domus and gatehouse range, now incorporated into the wider Beaulieu estate, while the abbey church itself has been lost above foundation level. It remains part of the privately owned Beaulieu estate held by the Montagu family. The grounds are accessible to visitors on a ticketed basis as part of the Beaulieu attraction, and the church remains in active parish use.
About Beaulieu Abbey, Hampshire
Beaulieu Abbey was founded in 1204 by King John as a monastery for Cistercian monks in the New Forest. It grew into a major center of Cistercian religious life, farming, and sheep husbandry in medieval Hampshire. The abbey was dissolved in 1538 during Henry VIII's suppression of the monasteries, ending its centuries of religious use.
