HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Baynard's Castle Site, London.

No standing structures survive of the riverside medieval castle, whose site is now covered by later buildings near Queenhithe in the City of London, with only fragmentary foundations occasionally exposed by excavation. The site lies within the City of London's jurisdiction, with no single body responsible for interpreting the remains. There is no public access to any castle fabric, as the location is occupied by ordinary streets and buildings.

About Baynard's Castle Site, London

Baynard's Castle was a medieval riverside stronghold on the Thames, rebuilt in the fifteenth century as a grand townhouse for the House of York. It was there that Richard, Duke of Gloucester, was offered the crown in 1483 and became Richard III. The site symbolized the link between royal politics and London during the Wars of the Roses.
