Texan militia and Ranger volunteers intercepted a large Comanche raiding party returning from the sack of Linnville near Plum Creek on August 12, 1840, inflicting a decisive defeat that recovered much of the plunder and significantly reduced large-scale Comanche raiding into settled areas of Texas for years afterward.
