About Battle of Orchomenus Site, Boeotia, Greece
Roman forces under Sulla defeated the Pontic army of Mithridates VI, commanded by the general Archelaus, near Orchomenus in Boeotia in 86 BCE. The battle followed Sulla's earlier victory at Chaeronea and broke Pontic power in mainland Greece during the First Mithridatic War. It secured Roman control over Greece and forced Mithridates toward peace.
