HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Battle of Fort Charlotte Site.

The original Fort Charlotte was demolished during nineteenth-century redevelopment. A partial, reduced-scale reconstruction nearby, now interpreted as Colonial Fort Condé, evokes the earlier fort, while historical markers and museum programming explain the 1780 Spanish siege within the heavily altered downtown landscape.

About Battle of Fort Charlotte Site

In March 1780, Spanish forces under Bernardo de Galvez besieged and captured this British fort at Mobile, driving Britain from the western Gulf Coast and opening the path to the later Spanish victory at Pensacola.
