The basilica of Saint-Sernin preserves its complete Romanesque structure, including the five-story octagonal bell tower, ambulatory and radiating chapels, and a crypt housing an extensive collection of relics. It is a monument historique owned by the French state and part of a World Heritage Site as one of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. The basilica remains an active place of Catholic worship and is open to the public.

About Basilica of Saint-Sernin

Canons of Saint-Sernin began building this church in the late eleventh century to house the relics of the martyr Saint Saturninus. It became a major stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, drawing pilgrims to venerate its many relics. Its scale and sculpted portals made it an influential model for Romanesque architecture in southern France.
