HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Basilica Julia.

Only the marble paved floor, brick core foundations, and stumps of columns and steps of the Basilica Julia remain in the Roman Forum, the superstructure having been lost long ago. The site lies within the Roman Forum, part of the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, administered by the Italian Ministry of Culture. It is accessible as part of the ticketed Forum and Palatine archaeological area.

About Basilica Julia

The Basilica Julia was begun by Julius Caesar in the first century BCE and completed under Augustus, replacing an earlier basilica in the Roman Forum. It housed the centumviral court and other civil tribunals, becoming a bustling center of legal business in the city. As one of the Forum's grandest public buildings, it symbolized Roman law.
