HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Basilica di Sant'Antonio.

The basilica preserves its medieval domed and towered structure largely intact, along with the saint's tomb, reliquary chapel, and extensive fresco and sculptural decoration including works by Donatello. It is administered by the Franciscan Conventual friars under the Pontifical Delegation of the Basilica. As an active place of worship and pilgrimage site, it is freely open to the public.

About Basilica di Sant'Antonio

Construction of the basilica in Padua began shortly after the death of the Franciscan friar Anthony of Padua in 1231, to house his tomb and relics. Franciscan builders completed the domed, Byzantine-influenced church over the following decades. It became a major pilgrimage site, drawing the devout to venerate a saint renowned for his preaching and miracles.
