HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Banasa.

The site preserves the excavated ruins of a Roman era North African settlement, including remains of a forum, temple, baths, and defensive walls, built atop an earlier Mauretanian and Phoenician settlement. It is a protected archaeological site under Moroccan state heritage authorities. The ruins lie in open ground and are accessible to visitors, though with little on site infrastructure.

About Banasa

Banasa began as a Phoenician trading settlement on Morocco's Atlantic plain before becoming a Roman colony under Augustus around the turn of the first century. Known as Colonia Iulia Valentia Banasa, it served as an administrative and agricultural center for Mauretania Tingitana along the Sebou River. The city functioned as a hub of Roman civic life for centuries.
