HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Bahla Fort.
The fort's mudbrick and stone walls, towers, and gates survive, largely through extensive twentieth and twenty-first century restoration and reconstruction of the earlier adobe fabric, which had fallen into serious disrepair. It is a World Heritage Site under the oversight of Oman's heritage ministry. The fort is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Bahla Fort
The Banu Nebhan tribe built Bahla Fort of mud brick on stone foundations between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries to defend their oasis settlement. Its walls and towers protected the surrounding palm groves and the falaj irrigation system that sustained the town. The fort anchored Banu Nebhan power over the trade routes of interior Oman.
