About Atkinson Cemetery
Atkinson Cemetery in Chappell Hill, Texas, takes its name from Jethro Atkinson, the town's 1857 mayor, whose plantation stood nearby. The earliest marked grave dates to 1844, when the land belonged to Robert Wooding Chappell, for whom the city was named. The Atkinson Cemetery Association, formed in 1957, has since maintained the burial ground for the community.
