HISTORIC PRESERVATION at At-Turaif District, Diriyah.

The district preserves the mud brick Najdi architecture of the Saudi ruling family's original seat, including the Salwa Palace complex, mosques, and fortified walls, substantially restored using traditional construction methods after long abandonment. It is managed by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority on behalf of the Saudi government and is designated a World Heritage Site. The site is open to visitors on a ticketed, guided basis.

About At-Turaif District, Diriyah

At-Turaif District in Diriyah was founded in the fifteenth century as the seat of the Al Saud family in the Najdi mudbrick style. In 1744 it became capital of the first Saudi state, an alliance of the House of Saud with reformer Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. It remained the state's political and religious center until destroyed in 1818.
