The original early-nineteenth-century Custis-Lee mansion survives within Arlington National Cemetery as a National Park Service historic site. Restored rooms, reconstructed dependencies, exhibits, archaeological resources, gardens, and grounds interpret the Custis and Lee families alongside the enslaved community that lived and worked there.
About Arlington House
Arlington House was built after the Revolution by George Washington Parke Custis, Martha Washington’s grandson. It commemorated George Washington and preserved family relics. The property’s Revolutionary significance is therefore memorial and familial, not a wartime use of the building.
