HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Ardmore Round Tower & St Declan's Monastery.

The site preserves a well-preserved round tower approximately thirty meters tall, along with the roofless ruins of a cathedral featuring Romanesque arcading and ogham inscribed stones, and the small oratory traditionally associated with Saint Declan. It is maintained by Ireland's Office of Public Works as a national monument. The site lies in open ground and is freely accessible to visitors.

About Ardmore Round Tower & St Declan's Monastery

Saint Declan founded a monastic settlement at Ardmore in the fifth century, reputedly before Saint Patrick's mission to Ireland, on the south coast of County Waterford. The community that grew around it built a cathedral and a round tower centuries later, in the twelfth century. Ardmore became an important center of early Irish Christianity and pilgrimage.
