HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Arco di Traiano (Trajan's Arch).

The arch survives essentially complete and in its original position, a marble triumphal gateway carved with historical reliefs, among the best preserved Roman arches anywhere. It stands in state ownership under Italy's Ministry of Culture as a protected monument. It stands astride a public street in the town center and is freely visible and accessible at all times.

About Arco di Traiano (Trajan's Arch)

The Roman Senate dedicated the Arch of Trajan at Benevento in 114 CE to honor Emperor Trajan and mark the start of the Via Traiana, his new road to the port of Brindisi. Sculpted reliefs on the arch depicted Trajan's public works, military victories, and benefits to Roman citizens. The monument served as a ceremonial gateway.
