The Villa Regina at Boscoreale preserves a Roman farmhouse and wine-producing complex with courtyard, dolia for wine storage, and a small press, along with an on-site antiquarium displaying artifacts and casts recovered from the surrounding countryside. It is managed by the Italian Ministry of Culture through the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Antiquarium of Boscoreale (Villa Regina), near Pompeii
Villa Regina was a Roman rustic farming estate near Pompeii, built in the first century BCE and devoted mainly to wine production. It was buried, along with the surrounding countryside, by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. The site illustrated the agricultural economy that supported the towns of the Bay of Naples in antiquity.
