About Anson Jones Home
Barrington Farm was the plantation home of Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas, who moved his family here after Texas joined the United States in 1845. Jones and enslaved laborers worked the land, raising cotton, corn, and livestock. The farm stood near Washington-on-the-Brazos, where Texas independence had been declared in 1836.
