The timber framed Wealden hall house survives largely intact, retaining its exposed beams, hearths, and period room layout, along with collections of furniture, textiles, and locally made ironwork displayed inside. It is owned and operated by the Sussex Archaeological Society as a house museum. The house and its garden are open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis.
About Anne of Cleves House, Lewes, East Sussex
This Wealden timber-framed hall house was built in the fifteenth century in Lewes. In 1541 it was included in the divorce settlement granted to Anne of Cleves by Henry VIII, though she likely never resided there, and the manor was managed on her behalf. The house continued afterward as an ordinary private residence for local families.
