HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Ancient Theatre of Larisa.

The Ancient Theatre of Larisa preserves much of its stone cavea cut into the hillside, along with sections of the orchestra and stage building foundations uncovered through excavation, while some upper tiers and stage structures are missing or only partially preserved. It falls under the authority of the Greek Ministry of Culture through the local ephorate of antiquities. The site is open to the public as an archaeological area.

About Ancient Theatre of Larisa

The Ancient Theatre of Larisa was built into the acropolis hillside in the fourth or third century BCE for dramatic and civic performances. It was later remodeled by the Romans, who added arrangements suited to gladiatorial contests. The theater served as a center of Thessalian cultural and political life for centuries under Hellenistic and Roman rule.
