The site preserves extensive circuit walls with towers and gates built of large polygonal masonry, along with the foundations of a Doric temple identified with Zeus, on an unexcavated hillside. It falls under Greek state ownership and is protected by the Ministry of Culture as an archaeological site. The ruins lie in open ground and are freely accessible to visitors.

About Ancient Stratos, Aetolia

Stratos was the chief city of ancient Aetolia, prominent by the fifth century BCE along the Achelous River in western Greece. It served as the political center of the Aetolian League, a federation of city-states, and was fortified with extensive walls and towers. The city's sanctuary of Zeus reflected its importance as a regional religious center.
