HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Ancient Nemea.

Several columns of the Temple of Zeus stand re-erected among the sanctuary's foundations, alongside the ancient stadium, its vaulted entrance tunnel, and assorted altars and building foundations across the site. The sanctuary is administered by the Greek Ministry of Culture through its local antiquities authority. It is an archaeological park open to the public on a ticketed basis, with an adjoining museum housing finds from the excavations.

About Ancient Nemea

Nemea was the site of a sanctuary of Zeus where the Nemean Games, one of the four Panhellenic athletic festivals, were traditionally established in 573 BCE. Ancient myth credited the games' founding to the Seven Against Thebes or to Heracles's slaying of the Nemean lion. The sanctuary's stadium and temple drew athletes and pilgrims from across the Greek world.
