About Amos Gates
Amos Gates, born in 1799 and died in 1883, was among the settlers of Stephen F. Austin's first colony in Texas. He was buried in this cemetery alongside his son, William C. Gates, a Confederate Army veteran who lived from 1834 to 1877. Their graves mark the presence of an early Anglo-American settler family in the area.
