The site preserves excavated remains of the Gallo-Roman town on Mont Auxois, including a forum, theater, and house foundations, while the siege fortifications tied to Caesar's campaign survive only as modern reconstructions built for interpretation. The archaeological area and the adjoining MuseoParc Alésia center are operated under local and departmental authority. The site is open to the public, with the museum ticketed and the ruins viewable in open ground.
About Alesia (Alise-Sainte-Reine)
Alesia was the site of the decisive siege of 52 BCE, in which Julius Caesar's Roman legions surrounded and defeated the Gallic forces led by Vercingetorix. The Gauls' surrender there ended organized resistance to Rome and secured Caesar's conquest of Gaul. A Gallo-Roman town later grew on the site, developing temples and public buildings under Roman rule.
