HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Alcazaba of Málaga.

The fortress preserves its double circuit of Moorish walls, gates, and towers along with a partially restored palace complex, much of the restoration dating from the twentieth century after centuries of neglect. It is owned and managed by the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the city council, as a scheduled historic monument. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Alcazaba of Málaga

The Alcazaba of Málaga was built in the eleventh century under Muslim Taifa rulers as a fortified palace overlooking the port. It rose on earlier Phoenician and Roman defenses and connected to the hilltop Gibralfaro castle by a corridor. It served as residence of Málaga's Muslim governors until the Christian conquest of the city in the fifteenth century.
