HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Adare Village & Adare Friary.

The site preserves the ruined but substantially intact remains of a medieval Franciscan friary, including its cloister, tower, and church walls, alongside the adjoining village's row of thatched cottages and other medieval monastic remnants nearby. The friary ruins are maintained by Ireland's Office of Public Works as a national monument, while the village itself remains a living community under local authority. The friary grounds are freely accessible, and the village streets are open to the public.

About Adare Village & Adare Friary

Augustinian friars established Adare Friary in County Limerick in the early fourteenth century, one of three medieval religious houses founded there alongside Trinitarian and, later, Franciscan communities. It served as a center of monastic life, learning, and burial for roughly two centuries. Adare village grew up around these foundations, forming an ecclesiastical settlement in medieval Munster.
