HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Acrocorinth.

The site preserves extensive fortification walls and gates built up in Byzantine, Frankish, and Ottoman phases atop the ancient acropolis, along with cistern remains and the foundations of the Temple of Aphrodite, with little surviving from the classical Greek period itself. It falls under the Greek Ministry of Culture through the local Ephorate of Antiquities. The site is open to the public as an archaeological area, with ruins freely explorable in open ground.

About Acrocorinth

Acrocorinth served as the fortified acropolis of ancient Corinth from the Archaic period onward, guarding routes between central Greece and the Peloponnese. It hosted a temple to Aphrodite and was later refortified in turn by Byzantine, Frankish, and Ottoman rulers. Its commanding height made it one of the most fought over strongholds in Greek history.
