Sarah Winston was the mother of Patrick Henry. She married John Syme Sr. in 1726; after his death she married John Henry in 1733. Patrick was among the children of her second marriage.

After her husband John Henry's death, Sarah lived with her daughter Jane Henry Meredith's family. She died at their Winton home in Amherst County in 1784 and was buried in the Winton cemetery, according to Virginia's historic register. The cause of death is not established.
