Robert Cromwell was the father of Oliver Cromwell. A member of a Huntingdonshire family, he married Elizabeth Steward around 1590 and died in 1617.

Robert Cromwell died in June 1617. His son Oliver left Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, after just over a year because of his father's death and returned to the family home. Robert's will placed his estates with his widow, Elizabeth Steward. The cause of death is not documented in the consulted museum account.
