Richard Bland was also a county commissioner of Charles City County and later Prince George County, a member of the founding Board of Visitors of The College of William & Mary, and is noted in the church records as a member of the Vestry of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, which authorized in 1710 the building of the present Church structure. Richard Bland of Jordan's Point was a London-born planter and burgess for Prince George County, and the father of the Revolutionary statesman Richard Bland. He grew up in Virginia after the family's emigration and received a share of the Bland landholdings along the James River. Bland settled at Jordan's Point in what became Prince George County and sat in the House of Burgesses as a member for the county. Bland died at Jordan's Point in 1720.
