Mercy Steele Webster was mother of American lexicographer Noah Webster. She and farmer Noah Webster Sr. raised five children in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Mercy Steele Webster died in 1794 at age sixty-seven and was buried in Center Cemetery, now Old Center Cemetery in West Hartford. The Noah Webster House says dysentery was a possible cause, not a confirmed diagnosis. During the Revolution she managed the family farm while her husband and sons were away.
