Louis-Ferdinand, Dauphin of France, was a son of Louis XV and father of three later French kings: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, and Charles X. His second wife, Maria Josepha of Saxony, was their mother.

DEATH

Louis fell ill after military exercises in August 1765. A persistent cough, fever, and later coughing of blood followed; the Château de Fontainebleau describes tuberculosis or chronic bronchitis as possible diagnoses. He died in his apartment at Fontainebleau on December 20, aged 36. At his request, he was buried in Sens Cathedral rather than the customary royal burial place at Saint-Denis.
