Elliott Bulloch Roosevelt was Eleanor Roosevelt’s father and the younger brother of President Theodore Roosevelt. He worked briefly in a family real estate business.
EARLY LIFE
He worked at the Ludlow family real estate firm, then struggled with alcoholism, depression and dependence on morphine and laudanum. He and Anna Hall separated after the birth of their youngest child.
CAREER
DEATH
Elliott died on August 14, 1894, after an apparent suicide attempt in which he jumped from a window the previous day. The National Park Service says he survived the fall but then suffered a seizure; a contemporary newspaper attributed his death to heart disease. First buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, he was later reinterred in the Hall family vault at Tivoli.
