Elihu Adams (1741–1775) was John Adams’s youngest brother and a Massachusetts farmer and militia captain. He settled about 1762 on inherited land in Braintree’s South Parish and married Thankful White in 1765. During the siege of Boston he commanded a company at Cambridge and contracted dysentery. His death left Thankful with young children and an estate burdened by debts. Her surviving 1777 petition sought permission to sell land to meet those obligations.
