Alexander Contee Hanson Sr. (1749–1806) was a Maryland judge and chancellor, the son of Continental Congress president John Hanson. He represented Frederick County at the 1774 Annapolis Convention and became clerk of the new state Senate in 1777. Serving on the General Court from 1778 to 1789, he also attended Maryland’s federal ratification convention. He was chancellor and Land Office judge until his death. His career helped establish Maryland’s postwar courts.

Hanson seems to have been a religious man and of the kindest disposition. He was charitable, and many acts of kindness are related by his grandson. He took several young men under his care and treated them with a fatherly kindness. He died by a stroke of apoplexy January 16, 1806.
